EAN-13 Barcodes for Retail Products

EAN-13 is the 13-digit barcode on most retail products worldwide. Point-of-sale systems read it to look up price and stock.

Where the number comes from

For products sold in shops, you need a GS1-issued company prefix so your codes are globally unique. For internal use, you can generate your own numbers.

Check digit

The last digit is a checksum calculated from the first twelve. A good generator computes it for you so the code is always valid.

Printing

Keep the bars sharp and high-contrast, respect the quiet zones on each side, and do not stretch the code vertically beyond legibility.
