Frequently asked questions
I only have a 10-digit ISBN. What now?
ISBN-10 converts to ISBN-13 by prefixing 978 and recalculating the check digit. Retail barcodes use the 13-digit form.
What is the small add-on barcode for?
It encodes the suggested retail price. The 5-digit form starts with a currency indicator, for example 5 for US dollars.
Do I need a separate ISBN per format?
Yes. Paperback, hardback and each distinct edition take their own ISBN.
