Frequently asked questions
Why does ITF-14 need a bearer bar?
It prevents partial scans. On corrugated board the print can distort, and the frame stops the scanner reading only part of the symbol.
Can ITF-14 go on a retail product?
No. Retail units take EAN-13 or UPC-A. ITF-14 identifies the outer case, not the item sold at the till.
Must it always be 14 digits?
Yes. ITF-14 is fixed length. Interleaved 2 of 5 is the variable-length relative.
